What is the best way to manage your macbook pro battery at home?

I have a macbook pro and i was wondering what you guys do?
do u keep the charger in at all times? do you take it out after its fully charged and use it? cause im wondering if im doing the best possible thing.

Typically you can keep your charger in when you are using it at home or whenever power is available. Apple recommends that you drain the battery and calibrate it before you first use it and then once again once every month regardless of the type of use you subject it too. The first thing you need to do is charge your computer till the adapter light is green and the onscreen indicator shows 100%. Next let the battery rest in the fully charged state for at least 2 hours. You can use you computer normally during this time. After 2 hours disconnect the power adapter while the computer is still on and let the computer run using battery charge. Once the indicator gets low and warns you it is about to shut down save everything and let the computer go to sleep. Let your MacBook sleep for about 5 hours and then connect the power adapter again and leave it connected until the battery is completely charged.

It is recommended that you always use some type of hand protection when working the bag. Although serious bag injuries aren't too common, it's pretty terrible to admit that you can't participate in the actual fight because you broke your hand on the bag. As far as hand protection goes, it can be pro gloves for a boxer, striking/grappling gloves for those into MMA or possibly just hand/wrist wraps. Please use some type of protection though- It's better for your bones and will result in less wear and tear on the bag. For those planning on using less hand protection, you may want to consider a lighter bag to avoid potential injuries.

Normally a laptop battery can run up to 2 hours, but more often it run less than that. After sometime, we notice the battery running shorter and shorter where we need more often to charge it. No matter how good is the manufacturer, battery degradation will happen overtime. But the good news is, battery degradation can be minimize by know few facts and tips on laptop battery.

For any new laptop, the battery usually comes empty. It's advisable to charge at least 4 hours non-stop on the first charging as it can prolong the lifespan of the battery. Also during the first charging, it is not advisable to use the laptop battery at all.

There are generally 2 types of battery. Knowing the different is important because it affect how we should charge the battery. The older type is call Nickel Cadmium battery. For this kind of battery, it's advisable to use the battery until empty, and then charge it to full. This is a one full cycle. As for another type of battery, which is Lithium based battery, it's advisable to use the battery until 10%-20% before you charge it to full. On Windows base, you will get alert that battery is running low and you should start charging it.

So far we have cover how to charge the battery effectively, but how about effective usage of laptop battery. On Windows base, it's recommended to use the Power Schemes for Laptop to control how the laptop behaves after a period of inactivity. Example, when running on battery, after 5 minutes, it will turn off monitor. After 10 minutes, it will turn off harddisk. After 20 minutes, the laptop will go into standby mode. This can greatly reduce the drainage on the laptop battery.

Second way to reduce battery usage is to lower/darken the laptop monitor brightness. Brighter screen consumes more power compare to darker screen. Thirdly, when running on battery, try to minimize the number of active applications running at the same time. Each application consumes processing power, so more processing will use more power from the battery. Lastly when laptop is not in used, set the laptop to standby/hibernate mode. This can be done by pressing the 'power' button once or just close the laptop lid.

Another last tip on reducing battery power usage is to avoid using external devices like external harddisk, external DVD writer and iPod. These devices does not have its own power supply, therefore it will drain the power directly from the laptop battery. If you really want long runtime on laptop that running on battery, you should consider getting a 9 cell battery. On down side, it will be bigger and add extra weight to the laptop, but on the good side, it can last for up to 4 hour runtime.

By knowing these facts and tips, you should be able to prolong the laptop battery lifetime and also maximize your runtime when running on battery.

I'm going on a roadtrip to Georgia from New Jersey and need a way to charge my Macbook in the car. It's just a regular macbook... it's about a year old and is white.

Does my MacBook Pro lose battery power when I put it in sleep mode?

I also have another question. When I put my MacBook in sleep mode, is it ok to put inside the sleeve that I bought with it or would that make it overheat? I just got it and Im not sure how these things work yet!

It will use a small amount of power in sleep mode. But you can easily leave it for at least 24 hours in sleep mode without running down the battery.

My brandy new MacBook Pro (First Mac Ever, btw) will be arriving early next week.

You can give it a try, however, most OEM versions are pegged to the BIOS of the system they came on and usually won't install on another computer. It really depends on the type of disk your girlfriend received with her system. If it's a restore disk (which is just an image of her installation), then it definitely won't work.

Try it, it won't hurt anything (other than being a violation of Microsoft's lame license agreement). If it doesn't work, then you'll have to get a retail copy of Windows.

When it comes to choosing the right motorcycle helmet, it's hard to decide which shape, style, and size is going to best fit your needs. Because there so many different types of helmets available today, it's important that you research the pros and cons of each type of helmet, consider the features of each motorcycle helmet style, and then weigh all of those factors in when determining which helmet is the right one for you.

So what are the pros and cons of each motorcycle helmet style? Well there are so many that if we decided to discuss each and every detail about every type of helmet, we would be here for days. So let's stick to the basics and talk briefly about the major categories of motorcycle helmets which are full face helmets, three quarter shell helmets, and half shell helmets.

Full face helmets cover the entire head and face and offer the most protection of all motorcycle helmet types. The full face helmet shell starts from the base of the neck and extends all the way over the head to the lower portion of the chin and then wraps around the sides of the head to provide maximum coverage. An opening on the front of the helmet which extends from ear to ear allows the rider to see out of the helmet. This opening is covered by a plastic shield which can be lifted up to remain open or closed completely to provide maximum protection for the eyes.

When closed, the shield also protects the face from over exposure to wind and cold as well as flying debris. In the event of an accident, the full face helmet will offer more protection to your head because your entire head would be covered. Another type of full face helmet is the modular or flip-up helmet. Like the traditional full face helmet, the modular helmet has a plastic shield which covers the opening over your eyes. The modular helmet has an added feature of being able to flip up the front portion of the helmet which covers the face. This provides extra ventilation to the face and head which cannot be provided by the traditional full face helmet.

Three quarter shell helmets cover the entire head except for the face which offers less protection than the full face helmet. The shell extends from the base of the neck over the top of the head to just above the brow line. The shell then extends down the sides of the face just below the ears and the wraps around the sides of the head. Most three quarter shell helmets are equipped with three metal snaps located just above the brow line on the exterior of the helmet. These snaps are used for fastening removable face shields which extend from the brow line to just below the chin. The shields provide similar functionality to that of the front of the full face helmet, but there is less protection because the helmet shell does not wrap completely around the head and face. The shield, when used properly, does offer protection from flying debris, excess wind, and cold temperatures. Three quarter helmet shields can be easily adjusted to sit in an upright position, completely exposing the face, or in a downward position which provides the most protection as described above.

Finally, the half shell helmets cover only the upper half of the head and provide the least amount of protection, but the most amount of freedom when it comes to helmet coverage. The shell extends from the top of the neck over the top of the head to just above the brow line, and then wraps around the sides of the head just above the ears. The half helmet shell provides the most exposure to wind, which if you are riding in warmer temperatures, may be more beneficial to the overall comfort of the rider. Some half shell helmets come with a removable visor which can be used to protect the eyes of the rider. The half shell helmet provides for the most freedom, and is less confining than full face helmets or three quarter helmets.

Each helmet style has distinct features and characteristics that are separate from the others. Full face helmets cover the entire head and offer maximum protection from injury, and from flying debris and wind. Three quarter helmets provide protection to the entire head, minus the face, and offer more ventilation to the face than the full face helmets. Half shell helmets provide the most ventilation and are the least constraining of all helmets. When it comes to picking the right helmet, it really depends on your personal preference and it's up to you to decide which features we mentioned above are most important to you. Making the decision based on what you really want is going to make your riding experience more enjoyable in the long run.

In my experience as a photographer I came across countless of cameras, both digital and analog. This article is meant to explain the differences between the two technologies and serve as a camera buying guide for the undecided shopper.

Digital and old 35mm film cameras look and are operated almost the same: you look through the viewfinder, frame your shot and push the shutter button. However, the great difference between them lies in the way they capture and process the image. While the 35mm predecessors used the film to capture the image, their digital successors use a charge-couple device (CCD) known as the image sensor. This silicon chip, not larger than a letter key on the keyboard you have in front of your now, contains several grids of photosensitive diodes called pixels and each one of these will store exactly the information contained in one pixel from the picture that will be rendered so nicely on your desktop.

So, when the shutter opens to take the shot, each pixel will memorize the intensity of the light that fell on it. Milliseconds later, after the shutter closes, this value is converted to a digital number, and the sequence of the several millions of numbers representing the pixels in the picture is compressed, then stored in the memory of the camera (be that internal or the memory card). When switching the camera in playback mode, this sequence is decompressed, and every single digital value is translated into a pixel on the LCD screen. Can I use this power adapter with my iPod?

I just bought a Samsung camera and it came with a power adapter, obviously to charge it. And well I've always wanted a power adapter for my iPod so I don't have to charge on my computer all the time. I find it very useful to use this one for my iPod as well. I've also seen other power adapters not created by Apple to charge iPods.
