The combination of a mass spectrometer and a gas chromatograph makes a powerful tool for the detection of trace quantities of contaminants or toxins. A number of satellites and spacecraft have mass spectrometers for the identification of the small numbers of particles intercepted in space.

Mass spectrometers are also widely used in space missions to measure the composition of plasmas. Foe example, the cassini spacecraft carries the Cassini Plasma spectrometer (CAPS), which measures the mass of ions in Saturn's magnetosphere.

Mass spectrometry is an important method for the characterization of proteins. Pharmacokinetics is often studied using mass spectrometry because of the complex nature of the matrix (often blood or urine).

How much should i sell my laptop for?

It is a Sony Vaio PCG-K13. it has a 2.8ghz processor, wifi,dvd,cd-r, 512 ram, 40gig hdd. It still runs fast and its pretty much in new condition except a small scratch on the outer shell. Im in no rush i just want another one that i seen.

1. What is MP4 video?

How do you turn on a wireless compatibility switch on a dell inspiron e1405?

I have no wireless connection on my dell when i just had connection last week. It says i need to turn on a wireless compatibility switch and it is found on the side or the back of the laptop and there is no switch. so how do i turn it on?

I could be wrong, but I think it is Fn + F2.

Is this a good used laptop to buy?

I am going to buy a used laptop but am not too familiar with them. I was looking at this one DELL LATITUDE LAPTOP P3 C610 1GHZ CDRW DVD COMBO WIFI. Would that be a decent one if I do not really need it for more than typing up papers for school and looking up things on the internet? If it is ok what sort of price would be good to pay for it?

I would refer to a site called pcmag.com, all they do is evaluate computer equipment. I think they even have a section on their site where you can get reviews done on older equipment like the one you are interested in.
Try also going to consumerreports.org for some great advice. After you’ve chosen one you think you’d like go to a site called epinions.com for some great user reviews. I figured a Netbook would be a cool thing to get because it's so small, but besides the obvious size difference, what other differences are there between it and a regular laptop?

Netbook is basically a trim-down version of laptop, both in size and capabilities.

With that said, netbook is smaller in term of size (typically 12-14 inch screen) and less powerful, minimal graphics, usually does not have internal DVD or CD drive, small keyboard,etc.

Laptop is bigger (typically 14-17 inch screen) and more powerful, full feature keyboard, usually comes with internal DVD-ROM or even DVD-RW drive.

What you want to buy is actually depends on your needs

If you not gonna do much beside surfing the web, checking email, listen to online music, word processing then a netbook is perfect

A laptop is capable of everything a netbook can do (at faster rate too) and more.

While the Acer Aspire One is one of the more popular netbook lineups in the market, many of their models are limited to a 9-inch screen, rather than the bigger 10-inch display. Acer's latest 10-inch model; the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 aspires to change all that. With a price tag cheaper by about $40-$90 than similar models from other PC makers this netbook is set to take the market by storm.

Featuring the basic Intel Atom processor with 1GB worth of RAM and Windows XP setup, the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 offers a keyboard large enough for comfortable typing with a rather tiny touch pad and mouse buttons that aren't all that comfortable but this is expected as drawback due to its price. The netbook comes with a six-cell battery that can run up to 6 hours. On the flip side, it makes the whole package relatively heavy.

Netbooks were originally intended as cheap, no-frills travel machines, and the new Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 fits that bill well, but there are also plenty of well-polished features. This includes a 1.6GHz Atom Processor N270 and about 1GB worth of 533MHz DDR2 memory. The netbook utilizes a 160GB hard disk drive running at 5,400rpm. While the netbook uses a Mobile Intel 945GSE chipset it remains limited to its own integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. Weighing in at 2.9 pounds with the thicker 6-cell Li-ion battery and a 10.1-inch screen the netbook is powered by the Windows XP operating system.

The new Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 is available in blue, white, red, and black. Each unit offers a glossy casing and a matte finish on the keyboard tray. While the netbook has a footprint similar to other 10-inch Netbooks, it's significantly thicker in comparison, no doubt thanks to the bulky battery. The 10.2-inch LCD display offers a 1024x600 resolution. Bright and clear, the new bigger display is the main selling points of the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165.

With Intel's 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, specifically designed for low-power Netbooks, you get enough computing power for basic tasks, such as Web surfing, working on documents, and some basic multimedia playback. The system can run for an impressive 6 hours while replaying HD video but if you're not watching video you can probably expect battery life to increase somewhat.

I was thinking of buying a Sony Vaio for around the $1000 range or under and there are some good deals on refurbished ones but I don't know if it's a good idea to buy it refurbished. Any advice?

What's the microphone jack on my asus eee pc good for?

I have a microphone jack on my asus eee pc, but what can I use it for?

Use it for connecting a good microphone if you don't want to use the tiny one built into the Eee. On my Eee 701 4G, I think the little microphone is located on the bottom under the touchpad. Supposedly it works well, though I imagine a separate microphone connected to the jack and better positioned to receive sound would work better.

Graphics cards companies have no sympathy for you. Not just in the sense that they churn out new cards with bewildering new names as often as they can, forever chasing new pennies from your abused wallet. It's also that they don't seem to pay much attention to the.state of your PC.

Want a GeForce GTX 260? If you've been running a GeForce 8 until now, you'll probably need a new power supply to fuel its twin six-pin connectors. You might find you also need a new motherboard, as the colossal length of this board sees it headbutting against SATA and IDE sockets - on some boards, there simply isn't the space. On those that do, you'll need a clutch of new SATA cables if you're not already equipped with the low-profile ones with the l-shaped plugs. You may even need a new PC case to house your fatboy.

To rock the 280, the 260's meatier sibling you'll almost definitely need a new PSU, as, in addition to needing more juice than a 600 watter can realistically supply, it demands the new-ish 8-pin power plug alongside the now-traditional six-pin.

For many, the GTX card isn't the simple, standard graphics upgrade it appears to be: it may require a total rethink of your entire system. But is it worth it? If you're running a pre-GeForce 8 card, certainly. If you're already on a high-end GeForce 8/9 series or Radeon HD... it's more tricky. We established in September that the GTXs are fine cards indeed, but the clout they bring may not be Olympian enough to justify the expense. This is especially true for the 280, which doesn't squeak far enough ahead of its cheaper cousin for our money. With this month's release of pre-overclocked versions of both cards, the game might have changed a little. In theory, Zotac's GTX 260 Amp and Asus's pimped 280 both run faster out of the box without harming stability and have more headroom for your own warranty-worrying.

Overclocking headroom

The 260 adds 76MHz to the GPU and 5lMHz to the GDDR3, which leapfrogs a stock 280 in terms of raw speed. Clearly it's still hampered by fewer ROPs, Texture Units, Stream Processors and RAM, but it fetches up coolly, offering only a handful fewer frames per second in our Crysis and World in Conflict benchmarks. The ultimately minor real-world differential between a 260 and 280 means it doesn't dramatically out-perform a vanilla 260 - but to add some context, we're talking about a $650 card standing very nearly eye-to-eye with a $730 one. And that's before you factor in the AMP's extra overclocking headroom. While our stock 260's GPU fell over at 670MHz, this ran stably at 693 - and when doing so was the tiniest of noses ahead of a plain 280 when running Crysis at the fabled Very High settings (with a cheeky 4x anti-aliasing slapped on to boot). While we're yet to roadtest any rival pre-overclocked 260s, right now the Zotac looks like the 3D card to buy - especially given the fact you'll find a standard 260 is only $l50 less than this.

The news isn't so good for Asus' pumped-up take on the GTX 280. There was already a sense that the 280 was pushing the GT200 core as far as it would go in its current 65nm flavor (a 55nm revision is due later this year), and the claustrophobic overclocking       headroom only serves to confirm that. It whacks the GPU up from 602 to 670Mhz and the memory from 1106 to 1150 - an equivalent leap to what the 260 Amp manages over the stock 260. The real-world improvement is roughly analogous, too - you can expect just a couple of frames extra in graphics-intensive games. Crank it up to 706Mhz and that addition is doubled - 245fps in crysis Very High, and 28 if you kill the anti-aliasing. So nearly that mythical 30, and a minor settings sacrifice will win you it - there's no denying the GTX 280's got punch.

And the winner...?

Unfortunately, our comparison 280, a standard-clocked Gigabyte Model, also goes to 706MHz. Both Cards fall over if you inch any higher, so Asus' overclocked model isn't really buying you anything extra, except peace of mind that you're a bit more warranty-shielded if it does melt down at 650MHz.

The $l20 rider on the 280 over the 260 makes it a tough card to recommend, but it's worth mentioning that both boards have seen price cuts in the wake of ATI's nearly-as-mighty, crazy-cheap Radeon HD 4850. These are the better cards, most especially at higher resolutions and with anti-aliasing, but even at the lower prices the 4850 seems the more rational choice. It's positively svelte compared to these twin-slot horrors, too.

Nevertheless, Zotac's GTX 260 Amp comfortably wins the day, and our hardware hearts. $650 (if you shop smart online) for a card that's within spitting distance of as good as it gets? So long as your PC can physically take its enormous bulk and frightening power-thirst, you're looking at your new GPU god right there.

Bluetooth technology is becoming increasingly popular in the world of electronics, both for the home and office environments, and even on the road. Bluetooth technology can be found not only in hands-free headset devices for your cell phone, but also in printers, computers, laptops, entertainment systems and more. With the increase in electronic and technology products we use in our daily lives, it is no wonder we would all like freedom from wires. Bluetooth is one technology that does just that.

Bluetooth technology works by transmitting low-powered radio signals in the 2.4 GHz range. Bluetooth wireless technology can penetrate solid objects, and unlike other technologies, it is omni-directional. This means that the technology does not require line-of sight positioning of connected devices and can communicate with other devices and extend beyond doors, walls and even different levels of a building. As long as the devices are in range, they can interact. This enables us to setup a personal-area network (PAN), which translates into the ability to own devices that can detect and interact with one another as they come within range of one another.

How close do they need to be you ask? That depends on the class of the Bluetooth device. There are two classes of Bluetooth. The first class, the weaker of the two, can transmit signals over a 33 foot range. The second class, the stronger of the two, can send and receive signals as far as 328 feet away.

In most cases you truly only need to be 10 to 20 feet or so away from these devices, as is the case with bluetooth printers. For the typical home user, you will likely be in the room with the printer or in a room close by to where the printer resides. The advantage of these devices is that you can print from far away sans wires. This technology is at the heart of innovations such as wireless printers and mobile printers. How to open a computer case of Dell Precision 380?

I need to replace the dvd-rom of my box (Dell Precision 380), but I could not open the other side of the lid to unscrew the dvd-rom. Only the main lid can easily be opened by pulling the unlock bar, but that didn't help to open the other.
