How much should i sell my laptop for?

It is a Sony Vaio PCG-K13. it has a 2.8ghz processor, wifi,dvd,cd-r, 512 ram, 40gig hdd. It still runs fast and its pretty much in new condition except a small scratch on the outer shell. Im in no rush i just want another one that i seen.

Where can I find harddrives for Apple Macbook?

I have an old white Apple MacBook. I have just recently been experience problems like 'your startup disk is full' and I want to add memory. However, there are alot of different harddrives on the Apple site. Can anyone give me the link to one I would need?

Are you considering an external drive? Most of those are Mac compatible, and you just hook up via USB. The Western Digital ones are great.

Keep in mind that if you have Mac OSX Leopard, you have a program called "Time Machine" which does an awesome job of backing up your files regularly. Unfortunately, if you decide to use your external hard drive for this purpose, it can ONLY work for Time Machine. You can't do partitions or anything like that. So if you want to use Time Machine *and* have extra storage, you'll need two external hard drives.

Of course, another option is to try to delete unnecessary files from your Mac. Are you aware of what's on there, and what's taking up so much space?

There are several SIP phone apps at the store, but most have a pre-programmed domain name for the sip registration proxy server. If you want to use your own SIP proxy there was no easy way to change the IP address so you had to hack your DNS to get it to point to the ShoreTel SIP proxy. Also you need at least iPhone firmware 2.2 as previous versions had WiFi connectivity challenges that negatively impacted the potential for using a SIP soft phone. After the iPhone WiFi acquired an IP address, if you attempted to ping the address you would see latency in excess of 300ms. With version 2.2 this issue has all but become unnoticeable. As with any SIP extension setup on ShoreTel, you need to assign sip extension proxy resources on a ShoreGear switch. In the sites section of the ShoreWare Director, make sure you assign a virtual IP address. This is the address you will use for your "domain' when you setup the IPhone SipPhone. Clearly you will need a User setup with a SIP phone password defined in the individual user section of the ShoreWare Director.

Clearly the assumption here is that you have a WAP that your iPhone can connect to. Also that that wireless connection can route to your ShoreTel network! Once the ShoreTel SIP user, virtual IP address and proxy resources are configured it is time to configure your iPhone SipPhone! After you down load the application and tap to activate the application you will get a screen that lists the options: Dialer, Recent, Contacts, Accounts and Settings. Hit the Accounts tab and you will then EDIT a new SIP account. To get this app to work on ShoreTel you need to enter only three values. First you need to enter the domain name, we have previously defined in the ShoreTel Director as the Virtual IP address. The Username and password are also as specified in the individual user setup in ShoreTel. Hit the DONE tab, and the phone should register and you can make and receive calls from your ShoreTel. I put together a video clip that covers this so you can see that it acutely works! The video suggests that you enter the user name, but if you want to call the iPhone from a ShoreTel extension, enter the user's extension number instead. This was just a fun project and latency on the iPhone WiFi is still a challenge for SIP phone usage. I suspect that Version 3.0 of the iPhone will fix this small issue, but it was a blast trying it out! Enjoy!

Toshiba laptop using Intel 965 video chip does not go full screen?

I have a problem with the laptop's video chip.
When I am in game mode, the full screen does not really go full screen. It stays at high res with a black background, it does not stretch the game window to the edge of the screen. Virtually it is a window mode.

Chances are your games dont have the resolution that your toshiba supports. You can try increasing the resolution inside the games, to see if that will fill the empty space, but if that doesn't work, than the games are not made to run with the 965 chipset. Also, if you're running Vista, that will make your games small. Chances are your games are rated for XP and not Vista, so there will be some small technical problems.
Trust me, I use Vista... I own like 30 fairly new computer games.
I have no games on my computer right now...
Because they dont work right...

What upgrades are available for a Pentium III processor without having to replace the mobo?

I currently have a Pentium III 800 MHz processor with a FBS of 133 MHz (Socket 370). What are my options for upgrading it without having to replace the motherboard?

Ok,,
There's 2 types of Socket 370 boards.

FCPGA and FCPGA-2

Yours is FCPGA

The simplest,cheapest Direct Plug-in & Go CPU is

You cant expect much gain from trying to overclock 'em.

The Next generation was Tualatin Core processors.

They were Socket 370's,,,but a Modified Version>>FCPGA-2

They will NOT directly work in older FCPGA boards.

There's also a physical MOD that can be done,,,to let them work Directly.
It's TRICKY,TEDIOUS,RISKY.
Well within the ability of Lots of people,,
But I dont reccomend it.
Adapators are too cheap to risk a chip,,ya know?

But the FSB Speeds are Different? 1 is fast,,1 is Slow??

Ok,,CPU Speed is determined by a simple "formula":
CPU has a "Clock Multiplier" internally.
Formula is:
Multiplier X FSB= CPU Speed

The Pentium is a 10.5X Multi-
10.5 x 133fsb= 1400Mhz CPU (1396.5mhz,,exactly)

The Celeron is 14X Multiplier
14 x 10= 1400Mhz CPU

All those CPU's are Hard-Locked Multiplier----
"Overclocking" includes Raising the Multiplier,,if possible,,,to speed-up the CPU.

Multi- CANNOT be Raised,,Intel Locks them solid.

But,,,if the CPU's are actually the SAME,,,just fiddled with by Intel when Mfgr'd.....
One is set to Run at 100FSB,,
Other is set to run at 133FSB.....

Did INTEL THEMSELVES raise that Multiplier from 10.5 to 14,,,and THEN Hard Lock it?
Yes,,thats exactly what they did.

So,,since they are SAME CHIP,,,but by some quirk one has a Higher Multiplier,,,
What Happens when 100FSB 14X Multi- CPU is plugged into a 133FSB?

Use same Formula,,Mutliplier x FSB
Celeron "Semi-Pentium" 14X x 133fsb== 1862Mhz CPU

Sounds Unreal ,,huh?
It's Not.

Worst Case,,,You'd have to set it at Default 100FSB and run 1400Mhz ,,and still a much more advanced CPU than a coppermine.
That's the WORST.
If your board has ANY fsb adjustments,,,you could go UP from 100fsb/1400mhz CPU.
Each 10mhz FSB =140 CPU Mhz

Your Board,Your RAM,the Tualatin Celeron all can handle 133mhz,,,,so if ADJUSTMENT is available,,,then it IS overclockable.

Important to note,,It's a 100fsb CPU--
so to Run at 1,000 it Must have a 10X Multiplier,right?

Multipliers are Hard Locked on all these chips.

To get to 1500Mhz with a 10X Multiplier,,,
means the FSB had to be 150Mhz
10X 150=1500

Which is exactly how these guys OC'd the 1000 to 1500Mhz..
they cranked up FSB to 150mhz.

That's BEYOND the standard 133FSB of the Tualatin Chip.
Which supports the Idea that a 1400 Celeron will run at 133 FSB.
Make Sense??

X-Bit is a Reputable source----realize they used Premium Parts to get it to run at 150 FSB.

But the GREATER Point is,,,a "100Mhz Celeron is actually a 133fsb Pentium 3"

It Should plug into to any 133fsb and run fine,,even though the Celeron is only 100Mhz "officially"

Their 1st additional 33mhz "overclock" Above the Cel's 100FSB was a Freebie,,a Gimme,,,,--a Natural capability of the Tualatin Core.

The Only amount they Actually "Overclocked" to reach 150FSB,,,
was the 17Mhz above 133Mhz.

If ya Gotta install the T-Celeron at 100fsb,,,,
every 10mhz on the FSB = 140 CPU Mhz(on the Celeron 1400).
Because the chip has that "huge" 14X multiplier.
And it IS actually a "133mhz Chip"..Unofficially.

At 100fsb= 1400 CPU
at 110fsb= 1540 CPU
at 120fsb= 1680 CPU
at 130fsb= 1820 cpu
etc,etc,etc

Whether or not you CAN OC from the 100mhz Board/Bios Settings,,,who knows?
(If you find that you CAN OC your rig,,,,spend $10~15 for a Good,Big Fan & Heatsink for the CPU IMMEDIATELY!)

But that particular CPU will NOT be the Limiting factor.

In Your situation,,,You would not be trying to OC the thing in the purest/performance sense.

But more like trying to get it UP from 100fsb,,,and more towards it's design capability of 133fsb
More like "Set-Up" than actually "OverClock"

Even if it's only stable a FEW Mhz over 100fsb,,,thats a good gain in CPU speed.
No Gaurantees it will,,,but Only the T-Celerons give you any Chance of going beyond 100fsb.

It PROBABLY will run fine at 133fsb

Bottom line,,you can go 1,000mhz~1100mhz with old FCPGA for about $20.
Thats a decent boost for the money,,,but really not much in an overall sense

For $40~50,

And Probably be able to "overclock" the Tualatin-Celeron a good bit,,,and it IS actually sorta a "semi-pentium".

A Cost -Effective Upgrade is Fine,,even on computers Way More obsolete than Yours.

Not Everybody NEEDS a computer fast enough to ride,,LOL.

But even so,,,You gotta Look Ahead,,consider what you'll end up with,,,and Draw a Line somewhere,,a Limit.

It's easy to do a $50 upgrade Now,,,
and in a couple months find a Great Deal on Vid Card for $20~30.
Then a Bunch of ram for $20~30....
and $15 for a Great Upgrade on a powersupply..
Then a 7200 Rpm Hard Drive for $20~30.

Ya Wake up and realize you've spent $150 or more,
another Year has passed,,
Your PC is MAXED OUT,,,And No More Upgrade possible.
and REALLY OUTDATED a year later.

Then ya see Good Late Model PC,, or Parts for 150~200,,,that'll just blow away your old one.
Plus being a few generations Newer,,,it still has some upgrade potential to last you into the future.

And you'll wonder,,"Why didnt I save my $$$ and wait 6 months??"

But ya could Never guess how many times I learned that same lesson...lol.

I see people with Older PC's get bashed,insulted,,etc,,,so many times when they ask about Upgrading their "obsolete PC".

Well,,,they dont Need a $3000 Gaming Rig.

Goofy as it seems to the PC Snobs,,,a cheap upgrade is Ideal for Lottsa people..

But,,,ya gotta draw a line somewhere.
And THAT's the tuff part.

If you had asked same question NEXT year,,,answer woulda been,,,Dont Fool with Socket 370 anymore.

Because More Advanced stuff will have fallen in price enough to where You could probably get a Board/CPU/Fan/Ram,, 2Ghz or better for $100 or Less.

Right now,,,ya Cant really take a very large leap ahead for less than a $100......mostly cuz You'd have to buy New RAM.

And there's not many setups that will beat
what you can still get outa your P-3 for $50 or less.

A FEW $$$ spent can give you a good boost in speed,,,and last you Long enough to get your money's worth.

But dont spend too much,,,cuz it just kinda falls off a cliff in terms of Value.
And you're better off saving the extra $$ to evenetually spend on a whole better setup.

Is there any way I can change the screen resolution on an old Gateway Solo 5300 laptop?

It is at 800 X 600 and I would like it to be at 1024 X 768 or whatever the last number is. Please help me out, gang!

if you have a 15" or lower sreen size it may not be a good idea to increase resolution but if you really want to right click on desktop >properties >settings then you will be able to change it there

I sit down and look at my notebook. Then, I put myself into the 'zone'. That's how I start to write web copy that sells. Whether you agree with me or not, your web copy will determine whether your product's going to sell online or not. Simple reason.

In an offline sales pitch or presentation, you get to interact with your prospect. You get to touch him. He gets to see you personally. But not online. No, no, no. It all depends on the words on your site. See how powerful words are? I'm not saying I'm a guru at web copy.

There are many other copywriters who are far better than me. Many. But I've written my own web copy and it's selling. And at the same time, I've been hired to write for others. Keep on reading on how I write killer web copy and you can pick up any of the tips.

The first part to write a copy, you MUST be in the 'zone'. What the heck is the 'zone'? The 'zone' is like... the mood. You see, writing a great copy is like an artist painting a beautiful picture. When you are in the 'zone', your hand can't stop typing and your mind keeps on coming up with amazing ideas to write.

Like, I'm in the 'zone' when I write this article. How to be in the 'zone'? I'm not sure how you can achieve that, but for me, I put in a lot of passion to write a killer copy and I look into the future to see how this copy will sell like crazy. That's how I get into the 'zone'. Once you are in the zone, keep on writing. Don't stop.

Even though, you know you are writing wrong grammar or putting in weird ideas. Just keep on writing. Then, after it's finished, read it all over again. This time, you'll pick up the mistakes and you'll add in more ideas. Continue doing this until you are satisfied with your work.

Finally, edit your work. When you start your copy, your headline is one of the most important parts of the copy. Some copy writers write tons of headlines before they start. For me, I'll write about 5 headlines and read it over several times. Then, I'll pick the best and fine tune it at least 5-10 times before I decide to use it.

One more part of writing copy; don't feel bad 'borrowing' some ideas from successful copy you've seen. Get a swipe file of the best copy you can find. And the last thing you need to keep in mind when writing a killer copy is this: "What's the end result the reader will get if they buy from you?" Your copy MUST sell hope and benefits to the reader if you want them to buy anything after reading your copy.

if you see someone with a laptop, would you think WOW if they had the macbook or macbook air. What one do you think is better? Why?

No....why would I care what laptop you had? If your buying a laptop just to use as a status symbol that's pretty pathetic. In my mind that's a common reason why people buy a Macbook, just because they can say they have one.

Macbook Air is really not practical, it lacks an optical drive, and lacks enough peripheral ports.

Is the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 a good laptop?

I have a very tight budget and am thinking about getting if for when i go to college. If not can you name a better type for $400 or less?

Im also planning on buying the large capacity lenovo s10. So far, it has good specs and IBM is a reputable manufacturer. A downside though is the battery life of only up to 2-3 hours. If that not a problem for you like it isnt for me, then go ahead.

Keep in mind that all these netbooks have no optical drive and most of them run on Intel Atom. The differences are keyboard sizes, battery life and other features.

Acer Aspire One seems to top charts too with its cheaper price and array of colors as well as its 6-cell battery. And people say Asus Eee PC 1000HA is good although I had a Eee pc 700 and it sucked. The keys are horrible and the charger got loose.

Netbooks (also called mini laptops) are famous for being small enough that you can take them with your wherever you go. Mini laptops, however, also lack many useful features that you would normally find in a desktop PC.

NAND or NOR Flash Memory:

Flash memory is a non-volatile data storing memory wafer that involves electrically erasing and reprogramming technology. Being non-volatile these chips are capable of storing data even in the absence of power and are renowned for fast reading and better kinetic shock resisting qualities. NAND devices are accessed serially, using the same eight pins to transmit control, addressing and data. NAND flash was introduced by Toshiba in 1989.

Although NAND and NOR memory chips function differently they are still widely being used in various electronic devices where data storing, erasing and reprogramming are essential. Both invented by DR. Fujio Masuoka in his work place Toshiba, the main goal was set to outdate the old storage devices that functions under magnetic energy like: hard disks and cassette tapes by reducing the cost per bit and increasing maximum chip capacity.

Hence, NAND flash is widely used in MP3 players, USB drives and digital cameras where higher storage capacity is crucial. But, some devices like pocket PC's can be found using both types of flash memory at the same time. These PC's typically use NAND for memory storage and NOR to boot the operating system.

Flawed Memory Drives and Data Recovery:

Data recovery is a highly specialized science which is equally valid for rescuing data from both NAND and NOR flash. Although, NOR is rarely used and is quite expensive, NAND is preferred extensively for mass storage and a huge godsend for thin and smaller devices.

The probability of data loss is elevated when bad memory storage is used: unbranded USB drives, unbranded NAND wafer devices, etc. These unbranded memory devices & chips are often noticed in spontaneous reboots leading to program failure. A malfunctioning RAM is often noticed to write correct data in an incorrect location of the drive which eventually creates a data malfunction and data loss. Furthermore, using flawed memory can also cause degradation of your hard drives logical capability and can finally destroy your device, the most extreme: an unbootable system or device.

Data recovery or NAND data recovery can minimize your loss and protect your machine from any incurable situation; we highly suggest avoiding the purchase of unbranded USB drives, SD cards, USB sticks, CompactFlash cards, and any other no-name devices for storing your crucial data. NAND recovery is possible but very complicated.

First Aid Before Data Recovery:

To fix these data degradation problems data recovery is only one solution that can rescue you and your data from the nightmare of any permanent loss. But, experts believe that data loss often becomes a complicated task when a user ignores the safety measures that help to avoid further data losses. Thus, in case of data loss some safety measures should be applied.

Data Recovery for Hard Drives & NAND Storage:

Data recovery processes embrace various techniques with latest technologies. At first, experts determine the fault on the device and classify them into Tier 1 and Tier 2. If your device falls into Tier 1 this means your device is suffering from a logically damaged component and data recovery costs are normally cheaper as compared to Tier 2. But, if your device has Tier 2 fault than your device is physically injured and may have many internal damaged circuits which need circuit and recovery experts; the process will normally be more costly.

After determining tier 1 or tier 2 an image of device is saved and these images are relocated to a separate server to avoid any accidental loss. Then the original copy of the image is transported to a lab where first degree data recovery is performed using various utilities which may include repairing faults in the device, dumping directly from NAND wafers, repairing circuits, crystals etc. Other various attempts are also made which includes testing and recovering from the logical damage on the device.

If the first degree recovery fails then the task is considered to be severe and second degree recovery is practiced which includes high level techniques and experts with professional knowledge over critical uses of software and hexadecimal formulas. These software utilities are used to re-build the drive and manipulate other drive errors.

In case of physical faults like: motor replacements, repairing heads or cleaning scratches different cleaning liquids and other spare parts are available according to the size and code. After every physical and logical recovery attempt the rescued data is copied to an additional storage device like: CD/DVD's, flash drives, and hard drives.

Dell Latitude D631 is not bright aenough to see. How can i brighten it?

I have a Dell Latitude D631. Currently there is a fault with the monitor. The screen is almost completely black but can just about see it. Is there a way I can brighten the laptop screen manually?

In the bios, set it so you can manually change the brightness (I forgot the name they use). Then you can use Fn + Up Arrow to increase brightness.

Over the years, there have been countless innovations when it comes to the Internet so that it certainly has become a medium of boundless possibilities. Without question, these advancements pose immense value to Internet users the world over; however, the World Wide Web has also become a platform for cybercriminals to wreak havoc in. The latest form of cybercrime that proliferates on the Web is scareware, an even more malicious form of software designed to deceive users into downloading these so-called "solutions" only to find their computers compromised.

What is It?

Simply put, scareware is fake anti-virus software. It is also referred to as rogueware and in some cases may appear as helpful computer applications such as a firewall system or registry cleaner. Cybercriminals who use this scam to generate profit use scare tactics to trick users into purchasing the software. Typically, you will be notified that your computer has been infected with viruses and along with the notification, you will be encouraged to download the scareware that will supposedly get rid of the problem.

Prevention

Clearly, scareware presents grave dangers to users because not only does it compromise your privacy and security, but cybercriminals have become so sophisticated that the removal of such malicious software can be extremely difficult and in many cases, costly. They usually appear in the form of pop-up ads even in websites that are legitimate. Sometimes you are taken to the scareware website directly and clicking on the X button on the window actually activates the malicious program.

However, there are many measures that you can take to ensure you aren't victimized by these scams. As in many situations, prevention is often the most effective measure against the threat of scareware. There are many good quality pop-up blockers that you can make use of and some of them are offered free. A good pop-up blocker will be one that targets not only advertisements but also spam as well as spyware. It is also a good idea to install a pop-up blocker that actively looks for and then destroys tracking cookies.

Social networking sites are a favorite target of cybercriminals simply because they are so popular and people do have a tendency to be negligent when they are on these sites. If you are a frequent social network user, choose a strong password and change it often. Beware of applications that you find on the sites such as games and other entertainment applications. In some cases, launching the application means you are allowing the third-party website to access information contained in your personal page.

Other Measures

Scareware websites appear legitimate with layouts that are very well-designed so you wouldn't think of suspecting these attackers. Know that these scammers change the appearance of their websites often so as to reduce the possibility that they will be recognized by Internet users. Even if the site claims to be affiliated with legitimate companies, be wary of these claims, especially if there is no link that will take you directly to the authority site. Keep a list of trusted anti-virus software and check any new names against this list always.
