Delhi-Based privately held realty firm BPTP, which shot into limelight last year after winning the bid for the country's largest-ever land deal in Noida and slid into a financial mess thereafter, says it has seen off the financial troubles but remains cautious on growth. The company intends to raise funds through an initial public offer (IPO), but has not decided on the timing or the amount to be raised, a senior executive said.

"We are out of this mess (Noida land deal). Home sales have picked up and we have received bookings for around 5,500 homes," said BPTP director Sudhanshu Tripathi, explaining how things were improving at the firm.

In March 2008, BPTP placed a big bet by outbidding realty giant DLF to win the Rs 5,000-crore land deal in a government auction. The property market went into a slump soon after the land deal. To add to the company's woes, one of the financial investors — Citi Property Investors (CPI) — reduced its commitment of $160 million in BPTP's special economic zones (SEZs) to just $100 million. This was in line with many other private equity deals that either got scrapped or scaled down in the downturn.

Eventually, BPTP acquired only a part of the land (23 acres of the total 95 acre) that it won in the auction. It shelled out Rs 1,300 crore for the transaction, half of which was raised through stake sale to J P Morgan and Citi Property Investors and rest came from promoter Kabul Chawla.

BPTP, which claims to have a landbank of over 2,000 acres in the national capital region, may soon revive its plans to raise capital and give exit route to its foreign stakeholders Citi Property Investors and JP Morgan, which together hold close to 9% in the company. "We will contemplate an IPO in 2-3 months to raise funds for our growth. But right now we haven't charted a growth plan. We still remain cautious," Mr Tripathi says.

I have a Dell Latitude D631. Currently there is a fault with the monitor. The screen is almost completely black but can just about see it. Is there a way I can brighten the laptop screen manually?

In the bios, set it so you can manually change the brightness (I forgot the name they use). Then you can use Fn + Up Arrow to increase brightness.

Monorail lighting uses low-voltage power with a single circuit and two conductors. Monorail is customizable to fit any style and lighting applications. Low voltage track lighting is needed for accent and task lighting with its halogen and xenon bulbs.

There are three types of fixtures that can be attached to monorail - QP Pendants, QF heads, and basic monorail fixtures. If you are using QF heads and QP Pendants, you will need a quick connect adapter. But, the basic monorail fixtures can be attached directly to the track.

Generally, glass and metal shapes are the common materials used for monorail fixtures. The shades come in different variations. Almost all fixtures are supplied with 12 voltage bulbs. If the transformer used has 24Voltage, it is important to use 24V bulb. You can also choose to use low wattage, if the bulb is too bright; by using low voltage track lighting.

It is important to plan the layout for your Monorail lighting. If you are a layout newbie it is recommended you use the lighting kits provided by the lighting store. These kits contain everything you need for the layout of your monorails.

To determine the length of the monorail, draw a scale or use a tape measure. To trace the layout, you have to use a string. Measure the string to calculate the length of rail. The rail may be cut in the fields to desired lengths. To have longer single-circuit runs, you can join sections to each other, using the "L" and "T" couplers.

The monorail lighting power is the next thing to work. This lighting should be Low voltage track lighting. This type of lighting should have a power supply with a maximum of 25 A. This is equivalent to 300W at 12V or 600W at 24V. This part is tricky because you have to determine the sum of the wattages of the bulbs to be connected to the monorail.

If the sum is less than your transformer wattage, then you just need this transformer. On the other hand, if the sum of the bulbs to be connected to the monorail is more than the wattage of your transformer, you will have to use one of higher wattage. Make sure that the monorail runs are powered separately by different transformers. One way this can be done is by using non-conductive connector.

Low voltage track lighting can be used for corner lamps, floor lamps, wall sconces, recessed lighting fixtures and chandelier. Monorail lighting can be used for home remodeling or commercial buildings, because of its unlimited design. Restaurants use monorail lighting for accent and spot lighting. Homes use low voltage for accent and task purposes.

After you have finished working on the circuit and transformer, the next task to do is to drill holes where you need them. Remember that the holes are proportional to the holes used to connect the monorail to the ceiling or wall.

Connect the track to the holes made. Monorail lighting that uses direct connections are simply screwed into the wall or ceiling. Make sure that the fixtures are tightly in place. You are now ready to turn on your lights and enjoy your work.

Discussing internal battery design would be incomplete if we did not write on the subject of integrated circuits. Batteries for PDAs, MP3s, Digital Cameras, and Laptops have designed within them integrated power management circuits that insure that the deliverance of reliable power is properly managed. Without these power management integrated circuits even fine tuned handhelds will exhibit problems such as over-voltage, and under-voltage conditions.

Taking a step back a moment letÂ’s build a platform with which to discuss power management integrated circuits. At its most basic level an integrated circuit in general is a miniaturized electronic circuit. An electrical circuit is a network that has a closed loop, giving a return path for current. The goals of integrated circuits are multifaceted, for example when designing for signal processing integrated circuits apply a predefined operation on potential differences (measured in volts) or currents (measured in amperes). Typical functions for such electrical networks are amplification, oscillation and analog linear algorithmic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, differentiation and integration.

For batteries the use of integrated circuits with the goal of power management is integrated battery management which include voltage regulation and charging functions. Power management integrated circuits offer other key benefits as well including maximizing battery life between charges, minimize charging times, and improve battery life.

The other critical aspect of power management integrated circuits is their functioning design to detect and monitor voltage levels in batteries. When certain parameter thresholds are exceeded or dangerous conditions exist, these “supervisory circuits” react through a programmable logic design to protect the monitored system and correct problems as programmed. Supervisory circuits are known by a variety of names, including battery monitors, power supply monitors, supply supervisory circuits and reset circuits. They perform critical functions including power-on-reset (POR) protection to ensure that processors always start at the same address during power-up. Without POR, even well-functioning systems can exhibit problems during power-up, power-down, overvoltage, and undervoltage conditions.

A real example of a battery pack protector circuit is a Texas Instrument two-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion) and lithium-polymer (Li-Pol) battery pack protector device. The deviceÂ’s primary function is to protect both Li-Ion and Li-Pol cells in a two-cell battery pack from being either over-charged (over-voltage) or over-discharged (under-voltage). It employs a precision band-gap voltage reference that is used to detect when either cell is approaching an over-voltage or under-voltage state. When on-board logic detects either condition, the series FET (field effect transistor) switch opens to protect the cells.

I wonÂ’t be getting anymore technical as this topic is better left to engineers. But suffice to say power management integrated circuits are a critical design aspect of your handheld battery. Without these integrated circuits your handheld device would have died along while back.

When you compare two laptops of diverse classes, it's a challenge because because of the different needs that they cater to. Knowing what these differences are would be useful for the consumers. For this review, we will take a closer look at the similarly priced Asus K50IJ-RX05 and HP Mini 311. Both are priced below $500, with the Asus K50IJ-RX05 having a tag of $420 and the HP Mini 311 having a price of $400.

The purpose of this review is to make comparisons for the benefit of those that are mainly looking at the price range when selecting their desired laptop. This is similar to the weight classes of boxing, which limit certain fighters from fighting each other. However, there is still the list that compares them to each other pound-for-pound and in terms of skill and achievements. For laptops, we will compare them using their specifications and capabilities. Since the Asus K50IJ-RX05 and the HP Mini 311 belong to the same price range, let us see what each of them can give to the consumer.

Asus K50IJ-RX05

The K50IJ-RX05 is Asus' contender in this price range. At first look, the consumer can see that this laptop has for its brain an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200. This is an older technology compared to the Core 2 Duo as well as the Core i7 found in most laptops. Users may think that this puts the K50IJ-RX05 at a disadvantage; however, the 3-gigabyte memory bank available to the user still helps the unit perform excellently in multitasking.

Design-wise, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 can certainly turn heads. Sleek and slim (with dimensions of 14.6 inches x 10.1 inches x 1.4 inches), the laptop has a bronze-black paint job that makes it look professional and not seem like it's entry-level. Aside from being one of the thinnest there is on the market, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 is also very light at 5.7 pounds.

The Asus K50IJ-RX05 has an ergonomic keyboard, big enough for touch-typing. One's hands can easily spot the touchpad because it is well integrated to its chassis.

Able to last a long time without AC power, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 is still able to give out a satisfactory performance even though it has older technology powering its operations as compared to other laptops in its class.

Cons:

The weakest point in the Asus K50IJ-RX05's design is that its specifications are fixed and cannot be upgraded. This is unfortunate, especially since the buyer will be stuck with the graphics media accelerator.

HP Mini 311

Unlike the Asus K50IJ-RX05, the HP Mini 311 is a netbook. It has for its processor an entirely different technology: The Intel Atom N270. Running at a clocked speed of 1.6 GHz, the Atom N270 is supported by 1 gigabyte of RAM. For storage, users have 160 gigabytes with which to put their files in. Needless to say, the HP Mini 311 does not have an optical drive.

The HP Mini 311 stands out among other netbooks due to its graphics card that makes for a better display.

The HP Mini 311 has impressive dimensions for an 11-incher. It measures 11.46 inches x 8 inches x 1.2 inches, and is 0.2 inches thinner than the Asus K50IJ-RX05. It is also very light at 3.22 pounds. Its chassis is loaded with several features including three USB ports, a 5-in-1 digital media reader, RJ-45 network connectivity port, VGA and an HDMI port.

The Mini 311 features a black-on-silver finish. The keyword and the touchpad are both silver. The keyboard is ergonomic; however, the touchpad is not as impressive as the keyboard is.

The HP Mini 311 has a battery life of 5.5 hours.
