I'm buying one of these things especially for taking notes in class, but also to research on Internet Light. Vi as Acer and HP, and it seems that on the same (although the keyboard HP seems a little nicer). Anyone have any opinion on this issue? Thank you.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that refuses to power up.?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that refuses to power up. I assumed the battery was dead when it happened the first time because I was away from any plug-in power source. But it's doing the same thing right now even though it's plugged in. It lights up for a split second and shuts right back off. Don't know what's up. Anybody have a clue?

Try using a freinds power cord before you do anything else.Make sure their make is Toshiba too and the output power matches the numbers on your charger.Plug it in and then press the power button. Most likely it should power up.

If it doesnt then its whole diff ballgame and we could try coupla other things.

Dell Inspiron 6400: AC Power Adapter type cannot be determined. What should I do?

Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop. I get the following message when I turn on:

Are you using a european AC adapter on a U.S. machine or visa versa? May be a low or high voltage issue. This is a far fetched idea i know...but you may also want to make sure the AC adapter you have BELONGS to the exact modle laptop you have. If you bought this second hand you may have been given the wrong cord...despite the fact that the cord fits. For a Dell Inspiron 6400, make sure you AC adapters part number matches at least one in this list:

There are two types of stair lifts available in the market today. These are the straight stair lift and curved stair lift. In choosing the best stair lift, you have to consider few factors.

You need to determine the type of stairway that you have at home. If it is a straight, then you will need the straight stair lift. This is the cheapest type because it is a straight run.

Relative to the brand of stair elevators, there are manufacturers that offer several options to each stair lift. This includes a permanent versus swivel seat, your choice of colors and the manner of installation. These elements may affect the price of stair lifts.

Dell ac adapter/charger stopped working?

I have an Inspiron 1525. The charger suddenly stopped working, the green light turned off. It's definitely not a power socket problem.

It seems that the wiring inside the charger cord is damaged, and you will eventually need to buy a new one. In the mean time, you can wiggle the charger cord into certain position and that might work temporarily.

You can borrow other people's charger, and yes, it NEEDS to be a dell charger. Dell charger has a special identification chip inside them that normal universal charger does not have. If the laptop does not see the chip, then the laptop will allow the adapter to power the laptop but not charge the battery. Some universal charger tends to work for a week or so, and then stop charging the battery. In general, make sure, the ouput voltage, amp and charger tip are the same as your broken charger to use it.

With the holiday season in full swing there isn't much time to run out and get those last minute gifts, or catch those great one day sales, let alone start trying to figure out what to buy at the last minute. If you still haven't figured out what to buy that lovable lawyer of yours (maybe yourself!), here's a short list of some useful gizmos that any busy lawyer should appreciate:

1) Netbook. Netbook this and Netbook that. What is a netbook? In short it's easiest to just think of a netbook as a very lightweight laptop, usually weighing 5 pounds or under including battery, that has a smaller than normal screen and keyboard. The best reasons for having a netbook are for the long battery time and portability. Netbooks use less powerful processors than your average laptop, presumably to be more energy-efficient. Something worth mentioning is that netbooks by and large do not have optical drives, so the main way you will connect to other devices will be through USB or an external drive. Oh, did I forget to mention a standard netbook is very cheap, hovering in the mid $300 range. By having a battery that will usually last between 5-8 hours depending on manufacturer (you need to get one with at least a 6 cell lithium ion battery; the ones under $300 usually come with 3 cell batteries) and an internal wireless network adapter, a netbook is a very convenient computer to travel with. Due to the processors used, it is best to stick with internet browsing, email, and light applications. A netbook is a nice companion computer and is powerful enough for most applications a lawyer would routinely use.

2) Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go Wireless USB Card. I'd rather not plug a specific brand when possible, but considering the current options for quick and easy supplemental internet usage, nothing really compares with Virgin Mobile's wireless USB. This is a good option for making sure you always have broadband level internet access no matter where you are. Since Virgin Mobile uses Sprint's network, you must be within the Sprint coverage area for this to work properly. The card itself is around $100, and for $20 you can buy 250MB worth of internet usage to be used within a month, which is more than enough for internet browsing and email utility. The good thing about this USB card is that you can activate it and pay by credit card whenever you need it, you don't have to be locked into a plan. This is not a good option for downloading videos or movies, but is great for a business trip or completing some timely work on the go. If you have a data plan for your PDA you can of course use that to get internet connectivity, however even for "unlimited" data plans, there are soft caps for data transfer.

3) Wireless Printer. You don't know what you are missing until you get a wireless printer. Starting at $50, you won't be sorry to forget about connecting and disconnecting devices in order to print a simple document or letter. In a day and age where it's common to work on your laptop, printing documents becomes so hassle-free when you can print your documents from the ease of wherever you are sitting without running around looking for cables. Setting up a wireless printer should take 10 minutes or less depending on how fast you are!

4) Digital Voice Recorder. Record your thoughts on the go, or dictate letters or other documents to be typed later. Starting at $50 you can get your hands on a high quality digital recorder that will allow you to make 100's of hours worth of voice recordings at a time. They usually have a voice-activated recording feature to eliminate soundless passages while making a recording. In the end, hook your recorder up to your computer through a USB cable (included) and you're off to the races. Especially useful for routine transcription services.

5) Business Card Scanner. Specialized little device, but what a time saver! These devices allow for the fast scanning of business cards, capturing information, and then creating electronic contacts that you can easily assimilate into Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, address books, Excel and other applications. Another useful function is that you can easily synchronize this information with your PDA. Great way to stay organized with minimal effort.

Discussing internal battery design would be incomplete if we did not write on the subject of integrated circuits. Batteries for PDAs, MP3s, Digital Cameras, and Laptops have designed within them integrated power management circuits that insure that the deliverance of reliable power is properly managed. Without these power management integrated circuits even fine tuned handhelds will exhibit problems such as over-voltage, and under-voltage conditions.

Taking a step back a moment letÂ’s build a platform with which to discuss power management integrated circuits. At its most basic level an integrated circuit in general is a miniaturized electronic circuit. An electrical circuit is a network that has a closed loop, giving a return path for current. The goals of integrated circuits are multifaceted, for example when designing for signal processing integrated circuits apply a predefined operation on potential differences (measured in volts) or currents (measured in amperes). Typical functions for such electrical networks are amplification, oscillation and analog linear algorithmic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, differentiation and integration.

For batteries the use of integrated circuits with the goal of power management is integrated battery management which include voltage regulation and charging functions. Power management integrated circuits offer other key benefits as well including maximizing battery life between charges, minimize charging times, and improve battery life.

The other critical aspect of power management integrated circuits is their functioning design to detect and monitor voltage levels in batteries. When certain parameter thresholds are exceeded or dangerous conditions exist, these “supervisory circuits” react through a programmable logic design to protect the monitored system and correct problems as programmed. Supervisory circuits are known by a variety of names, including battery monitors, power supply monitors, supply supervisory circuits and reset circuits. They perform critical functions including power-on-reset (POR) protection to ensure that processors always start at the same address during power-up. Without POR, even well-functioning systems can exhibit problems during power-up, power-down, overvoltage, and undervoltage conditions.

A real example of a battery pack protector circuit is a Texas Instrument two-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion) and lithium-polymer (Li-Pol) battery pack protector device. The deviceÂ’s primary function is to protect both Li-Ion and Li-Pol cells in a two-cell battery pack from being either over-charged (over-voltage) or over-discharged (under-voltage). It employs a precision band-gap voltage reference that is used to detect when either cell is approaching an over-voltage or under-voltage state. When on-board logic detects either condition, the series FET (field effect transistor) switch opens to protect the cells.

I wonÂ’t be getting anymore technical as this topic is better left to engineers. But suffice to say power management integrated circuits are a critical design aspect of your handheld battery. Without these integrated circuits your handheld device would have died along while back.
