LTO4 tape has specifically designed encryption capabilities that assist the customers in addressing the data security concerns. This LTO tape format performs its functions and operations without any interruptions and delays. The management of encryption key depends on the vendor. If the same encryption key and backup application is used, then it is possible to decode encrypted information on any LTO 4 tape drive. Turning point has been marked by the LTO4 tape. The LTO1 tape cartridges can not be played in the 4th generation ultrium tape drive while the LTO-2 and LTO3 tape media both are compatible.
This new generation of LTO 4 tape is very robust, economical and efficient storage medium. LTO 4 tape provides a cost effective storage solution that is very effective in addressing compliance requirements. It provides greater performance and faster speed than its previous generations. HP, Quantum and IBM lead the LTO tape program. The specification of LTO4 tape was implemented in the ultrium media and drives by the vendors in first half of year 2007. Tape specification of fourth generation LTO is interoperable that allows the tape drive to record data on LTO3 cartridge and to read recorded information from LTO-2 cartridge. There are quite a number of vendors including TDK, Sony, Imation, Dell, Maxell, Fuji, Verbatim that manufacture the durable and reliable LTO tape products. Backup solutions offered by LTO4 tape format are very reliable and efficient.
