Disassemble instructions Gateway MT3418?
Does anyone have disassemble instructions or diagram for the MT3418 (or any series that works for what I'm doing).
I have a bad power jack on my computer. I cannot afford the repair fees nor a new laptop. The only thing I need to replace is the $5 jack.

I own two Gateways though neither is an MT3418. On my older one you simply remove the screws on the rear and bottom of the case cover and lift it off. One my GT4010 you have a tab to slide on the rear of the case to remove the side cover and expose the insides.
Once this is done, you should have access to the jack you wish to change out. Be care full to ground yourself to the frame before touching any part of the inside board or other parts as a static electricity discharge could damage or destroy any of the sensitive low voltage electronics inside.
Simply touch and hold the frame with one hand while working with the other. It is easier to work if you attach a wire from your one wrist to the chassis the whole time your working.
I will warn you, on my GT4010 it is very hard or impossible to remove almost anything without disassembling several other parts of it. You may be lucky on the jack and be able to get at it but you may be biting off a little more than you can chew and do serious damage while inside.
It may well be worth your while to save up the $40.00 to $80.00 to have a shop do it. You could end up spending a great deal more from the smallest of mistakes.
