Which is the better processor? AMD Athlon or Intel Pentium 4?
I've got two computers, one with an Intel processor and one with an AMD processor.
The AMD is an AMD Athlon 3500+ 2.2GHz processor.
The Intel is an Intel Pentium 4 2.53GHz (but only showing up as 2.15GHz)
Which of the two is the better processor?
I'm planning on using one of them for photo editing, and I'm just wondering which of the two would be better suited for the task.
Thanks in advance!
AMD generally run 'slower' than Intel, so your Athlon may be running at 2.2GHz but you wont be recieving that performance. Intel are more reliable and run cooler, making them more efficient, so performance is better. As your processors are old the intel will be running better today. Your intel CPU can be sped up using the software on the link below, but only overclock it if you know what your doing and have adequate cooling! The Above is only my opinion though.
Your performance in photo editing will also be dependant on how much ram you have. You'll only need 1 or 1.5GB, because any more than that and your processors will be the limiting factor, not the ram, so more would bring no benifit.
My Intel 2.0GHz dual core laptop runs at equal speed to my AMD Athlon 2.69Ghz Dual Core desktop.

There are many advantages to disperse the peripheral device hardware. They say that in the interests of the owners of computers that have low end models. Acceleration increases the speed of any peripheral hardware more than the limit set by the manufacturer. For overclocking, low-end hardware made to perform as a higher end version does. Some computer enthusiasts who have good and new models of high quality and to break up their computer hardware in order to encourage them to work much better. Besides the speed advantage, provides greater acceleration signal, which helps equipment perform at maximum level.
Take a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4, its owner can overclock to 3.4 GHz. In doing so, he has on his hands now, a computer that works the same way as the actual Pentium 4 3.4 GHz without having to shell out more money on upgrading or buying a new computer. With overclocking computer you can also test-drive at the upcoming model or the recently released models you intend to purchase.
You can overclock almost everything on your computer, graphics, memory and processors. Even in experiments, PCI, AGP (accelerated graphics port), USB and serial ports on old models of computers can be overclocked. Nevertheless, a person who owns the older models of computers can best be careful not to break up their equipment while no concrete results and success documented, although there is still no accurate information concerning specific instructions and troubleshooting processes.
Remember to overclock your system at increasing levels, starting with the minimum velocity. Sharp change in the system through overclocking can cause serious harm to your computer. It was reported that some computers suffered from loss of data, often do not load, and even system crashing. To disperse step at a time, you have more opportunities to evaluate the limit of overclocking your computer game. Increase speed only after you have placed the system through rigorous testing system performance and stability of your computer to find out after the present modification. In the web you can find sites and companies that offer the processor tests for stability. You can easily Scout for a credible site and purchase products from the CPU test.
Possible overheating problems (which is reportedly a common problem for overclocking) may be prohibited from going through to ensure sufficient cooling of the peripheral to maintain low temperatures. Do not forget to always keep your processor cool, and most of the time, everything will be fine.
Gaming computers, and much benefit from overclocking. Due to the faster and higher performance levels, players are less experienced problems (or even none at all) when loading the game (and a Web page is loading for online games), game performance and others. Owners who like to play computer games, those EVE Online, definitely have an increased level of satisfaction with the game.
