Why does my Acer laptop say "plugged in but not charging"?

Often when I have my laptop plugged in, the battery level is low and I can't get it to start charging even though it's plugged in. Sometimes it does, other times it doesn't. Is it my battery or power cord? Thanks!!

Check your connections. Make sure the plug is tight in the port. You may have a bad connection on the power cord end. It is usually at the plug port that you use to plug in the cord at the laptop. When it does make contact, your battery charges. Look closely at this point. If jiggling the cord at this point causes it to charge and when you leave it alone it stops, the problem would be the contacts inside the port. You may need a tech to rectify or change the port. Usually the tech can adjust the contacts to ensure tightness.

Another thing you could do is to detach the battery pack and examine the contacts. DO NOT touch them with metal objects. Use a cleaning tissue to clean the contacts and replace the battery.
