Laptop question?

I have an IBM X41 Tablet and I have two 8 cell batteries for it. They worked one time each and now when they are plugged in it says 99% available (plugged in, not charging). When I take the power cord out the computer shuts off, and the battery has no power. Can I test the batteries or anything? Or what can I do. Please help!!

This does not just happen to IBM's it happens to all laptops old batteries seem to just go bad and you should look to switching out. There is a trick though that might give you a few more weeks with your batteries but you may only get 30 min a charge. What you do is charge the batteries then let them die 5 times then stick them in the freezer over night and then let them get back to room temp. then charge them back up and wala you have limited batterie life. I did this for my Hp that was 7 years old and it gave me 30 min of life for a few extra weeks while I found a new replacement. Hopefuly it will work better for you.

Using power efficient Centrino chips, proprietary hard disks and optical drives that automatically shut down when not in use, these companies can lay claim to having better battery lives for their laptops. But they are not the result of better battery technologies. The rush to find new and better alternative batteries remains a challenge.

Micro Fuel Cells

What seems like a sleepy battery landscape may change soon with the introduction of micro fuel cells. The new type of battery technology promises higher energy levels that can last over longer times. We're not talking about just lasting 8 hours but more like a tenfold increase in battery life that we have today. That's roughly 50 hours. Imagine if laptops can stay on for 2-3 days on a single charge. The competitive marketing opportunities are immense. Micro fuel cells are expected to apply not only to laptops but to other mobile gadgets like cellphones and gaming handsets.

Todate more that 60 companies including IBM, Toshiba, NEC, Sanyo, Panasonic and Motorola are competing to develop and commercialize the micro fuel cell battery. New York-based Medis technologies, for instance, has developed a disposable Power Pack that it claims can power cell phones for up to 20 hours or recharge them 5 to 6 times before getting disposed.
