how to test a dell notebook battery?

when i connect the power plug to the laptop and press the power button the laptop does not turn on. does the battery have to be charged? or can i just use the laptop with the power plug?

Normally a laptop battery can run up to 2 hours, but more often it run less than that. After sometime, we notice the battery running shorter and shorter where we need more often to charge it. Thirdly, when running on battery, try to minimize the number of active applications running at the same time. Each application consumes processing power, so more processing will use more power from the battery. Lastly when laptop is not in used, set the laptop to standby/hibernate mode. This can be done by pressing the 'power' button once or just close the laptop lid.

Another last tip on reducing battery power usage is to avoid using external devices like external harddisk, external DVD writer and iPod. These devices does not have its own power supply, therefore it will drain the power directly from the laptop battery. If you really want long runtime on laptop that running on battery, you should consider getting a 9 cell battery. On down side, it will be bigger and add extra weight to the laptop, but on the good side, it can last for up to 4 hour runtime.

By knowing these facts and tips, you should be able to prolong the laptop battery lifetime and also maximize your runtime when running on battery.
