The best part of owning a computer is the wealth of information and software available to run on it. However, that doesn't mean that all software is good or all information is helpful. I have put together this guide for you to make life easier on your PC. This doesn't mean that your computer will run perfect but it will probably run a lot better than if it didn't have the software on it.

1. Mozilla Firefox - Mozilla is a fantastic browser. If you're using Firefox you don't know what you're missing. It is absolutely the best browser available today. Did I mention it's free? What else do you need?

2. Spybot Search and Destroy - this software gets rid of adware, spyware, and other junky software. Spybot blocks the installation of spyware before it occurs; this is not a replacement for antivirus software. It's just a way to make your overall computer more secure.

3. AVG Antvirus - offers basic antivirus protection including scanning email attachments for viruses and scanning of all hard drives, removable drives, and external drives on your computer. A paid version does some additional tasks and includes technical support.

4. Zone Alarm - if you're on the Internet your computer needs a firewall. Newer versions of Windows do come with a firewall, but it is not what some would consider completely adequate. If you don't have a firewall installed, you should really try the software. Even if you do have a firewall, it might be good enough.

5. Notepad++ - the notepad that comes with your computer does read text files, but that's about all it does. If you are a programmer or even someone who just wants to get more out of your notepad text editor, Notepad++ is for you.

6. OpenOffice.org - working with Microsoft Office documents no longer meanst that you have to buy a copy of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel or Powerpoint. OpenOffice.org works with all of the popular Microsoft formats as well as the newly popular Open Document formats.

As with many freeware programs, "pro" or professional versions of the software are sometimes available to give computer users a maximum amount of protection, for a price. Still, all four of these programs have something to offer and are worth exploring. Your computer safety and privacy is essential, insure it today by downloading the programs that are right for you.

If you're looking to get a new computer, why not consider buying a laptop? If you're used to using desktop computers, you might wonder what all the fuss is about laptops. After all, a desktop is cheaper, faster, and an over all better value for the money. Why choose a laptop?

Of course, the best reason to get a laptop is portability. Unless you're used to it, you're probably not aware of how awesome it really is to be able to compute anywhere you want. Under a tree in the park, at a coffee shop, it doesn't matter. Laptops give you the amazing benefits of working anywhere.

In fact, many find this ability to take their work on the road addicting. There is nothing like the feeling of getting work done in your favorite coffee shop to make you approach the "working nomad" lifestyle of a laptop user.

For the real "power users," an average notebook might not cut it. If you're doing a lot of graphics and video work, you might want to look into a so called "desktop replacement" laptop. These provide all the power needed to get serious work done, albeit at a large size and heavy weight.

Now, if you're into image editing, video encoding, or any other high performance task, you're going to need a little more power. For people like you, there are so called "desktop replacement" laptops. Using one of these heavy, bulky laptops will still allow you to get your work done on the go, but at a noticeable weight penalty.

If you want to save some money with your laptop, try going used. A used notebook is a great way to save.. Since laptops often loose value fast, you can score some great deals by checking into used versions.

If you're the creative type, you might be interested in getting a tablet PC. These allow you to write directly on the screening, creating an entirely new, unique computing experience. If you're going to be doing graphics work or taking notes, you should give these a good look.

As you can see, laptops offer some unique advantages over desktops. Sure, you're paying more for less power, but for a lot of users, the portability of the laptop really is worth it. Be sure to consider one as you shop for your new computer.

Before you buy a laptop, consider going used. Cheap Used Laptops is a site devoted to bring you great deals such as used Alienware laptops

If you are after a thin laptop then you can't get much thinner than the Apple Macbook Air. It's about the size of a piece of paper (well maybe not quite). This hot laptop is Apple's entry into the ultraportable laptop market. They have entered with a bang as the Macbook Air is really something to talk about.

Take one look at the Macbook Air and you'll fall in love it is. The sleek design immediately draws your attention. Of course there are lighter laptops but they are not as light as the Air.

It's more a fashion item more than anything. If you have one of these you certainly dont want to keep it to yourself. The aluminium casing reassures you that the build quality has not been sacrificed for the size.

The design is fantastic but the power of the laptop is not as good as some others. The Macbook Air is definitely not the fastest of laptops on the market. The Macbook Air is powerful enough to be used for basic processes but you may not want to replace your desktop with it.

The laptop comes with an LED backlit display which makes sure that the batteries last longer than if it had a normal LCD display. The screen produces rich colours so is not like some of the cheap screens you can get on laptops.

The Macbook has a full keyboard which is a surprise for an ultraportable laptop. This makes typing a joy though of course it is still not as good as a separate keyboard.

Connectivity may be a problem with the Macbook Air. It doesn't come with a CD drive meaning you won't be able to put your favourite CDs onto your harddrive. Maybe this is so you'll be pursuaded to download all your music from iTunes!

The Macbook Air is a must have. It's sleek design is to die for. The only bad thing about it is the price. It costs around a grand to buy which means you'll have to save up for one! However, there is a way where you can get a Macbook Air for free. All you have to do is simply register for a DVD trial with Blockbuster or a similar service. Then invite a few friends to do the same. This marketing strategy has been covered by reputable news networks such as BBC, CNN and NBC.

Did you know not all laptop insurance products are the same, and that some providers will not even cover you for say ‘Water Damage’? It's the truth, no matter how problematic it is to get your laptop replaced or how important the material on it is, if your laptop was damaged by water most laptop insurance uk companies will simply tell you No Way. The key term here is most and very luckily for me, not all!

Last autumn I was staying at my parents' home for a few weeks while my own house was being renovated. I remember being pleased that I had finally bought a brand new laptop to replace the clunky old desktop that I had been hauling around since my university days and that I could bring my laptop out to my parents' place and use it there. Of course, I hadn't counted on there not being any wireless , so my laptop sat in the boot of my cay for most of my stay.

The day before I was moving back to my own place I wanted to show my mother some work I had done so I got it up on the screen for her. She loved my new laptop and all of the functionality that it could bring and she was even thinking of having my Daddy look into it as something that they could get for themselves . She had been thinking about replacing her desktop longer than I had been putting up with mine .

The next morning, I awoke to a chill in the room and a general feeling of clamminess in the air. Even before I woke up fully , I knew that something was not right and then finally, as my eye site focused I could see what a swamp my desk was with water. There had been some serious leaking through the open window in the night and now my desk, which sat directly underneath the window, was soaked, including my brand new laptop. I forgot to shut the window tight, my parents had warned me about this problem! It sure is lucky I had decided to take out Laptop Insurance Uk, as it would not even boot up. Equally important was that one of my work colleagues had told me to check that the Insurance will cover me for liquid damage, this I had done and it was actually the third Laptop Insurance website I visited before the right policy for my laptop was found.

At the end of the day, there was nothing to do but to call the company that had provided me with the Laptop Insurance. The representative was happy to hear my concerns and asked me plenty of questions about the nature of the problem. I sat on the phone nervously, waiting to hear that this wasn't covered.

I was pleasantly surprised , then, to find that it was definitely covered and that I could expect to see a resolution in no time at all. My problem with water damage, something that Laptop Insurance policies are notoriously reluctant to take care of, was well in the range of what could be covered and true to their word, I had the repairs taken care of very promptly.
