The HP Compaq dc5750 is available in a desktop configuration or orientation Microtower we've tested. HP calls the latter factor model "form small "system, but is almost identical in size to the Dell desktop systems. It is moderately attractive, with black horizontal leaves and some pieces of color shiny black.

The dc5750 uses small, traditional fans inside - one in food Electric, located in the back of the box, and an increase to the top of the processor heatsink. The HP uses an air intake for channeling airflow over the heatsink. The system is fairly quiet, although not as quiet as the Dell OptiPlex 740 we tested at once. The DC5750 is equipped with quick release mechanisms of the optical drive, power supply and expansion cards, but they are not nearly as well designed as the OptiPlex 740. For example, anchor the expansion slot is a piece of metal held by the upper house, remove the cap and the anchor can rattle around.

Our test system had integrated graphics, which we worried would slow Vista's Aero interface, especially since the system started with only 1 GB of system RAM from which the graphics system could steal. But we Aero with no problems. Even with integrated graphics, the HP lets you connect two monitors simultaneously - one DVI and one VGA. HP charges $ 95 for a 128MB card ATI 1300. The HP L2045w LCD monitor that came with our system to adjust height, swivel and tilt.

In our WorldBench 6 Beta 2 tests, the dc5750 scored a 62, about 11 one hundred behind the OptiPlex 740. These are two first Vista value systems we tested, and of energy on Vista systems we've tested previously, the two systems are very slow: the fastest system we've tested and scored a 129 in our reference point. If you want more power, you can opt for AMD processors with faster clock speeds, or choose a slightly different system and configure an Intel Core 2 Duo.

The DC5750 had no chassis intrusion detection mechanism installed, but HP offers no-cost option. You can buy a port guard to prevent unauthorized USB connections, and can disable the USB ports on the front BIOS password protected. HP offers a security sleeve for mounting the system under a desk or a wall, but only for use with the desktop version.

You can use the security chip embedded Trusted Platform Module on motherboards with the included software to encrypt passwords and document folders. The chip security feature works with Vista's Bit Locker, which lets you encrypt your hard drive.

HP offers 24 / 7 support high technology and next-management of days on-site warranty service, and you can turn even on the day of warranty service, the site of three years from 149 euros extra. Readers in the reliability of the latest survey on the service and the fourth in HP marked the bottom, with average marks in every category but "satisfaction with reliability, which scored below average.

With its many security options, the dc5750 is a good option if you want a PC that does not grow legs. But the OptiPlex 740 line, while perhaps not as generous with the safety of supplements, has a better designed case and a lower noise output. More information on other Laptop ...
