Toshiba Tablet PC laptop (Portege). How to reload the driver for the pen? Stopped in the middle of one article?

The pen stopped working after switching programs a few times. (Windows Journal - IE). How to get it back without restart? Thank a lot.

There was a known issue about this a few years back. MS offered a path for this problem which fixed the issue for some people, and greatly reduced it for others.

I still get this once-in-a-while, mainly in FireFox. There is a small utility available called Clearink. It is a batch file that when run reboots the whole Tablet Input system so that you don't have to reboot your whole machine.

You can try searching for clearink.bat to see if you can find it, or send me an email through the Yahoo Answers system with your email addy and I can send you a copy.

On many laptop computers made these days, you have a choice between a matte screen and a shiny one. Both have benefits and their strong detractors. Originally, almost all laptop screens were matte finished. The shiny ones are a relatively recent addition and have drawn more than their share of controversy. Traditionally, graphics professions preferred matte screens for higher color fidelity and less eye strain. Shiny screens were reserved for eye candy consumer laptops. Those strict divisions have started to blur recently. Graphics professionals are starting to realize that shiny screen actually reproduce deeper blacks and therefore a broader color range than other screens. They still need to keep in mind that most of the world browses on a matte screen though.

Another practical issue to take into account is cleaning. A shiny screen will show any fingerprint from anyone who touches it. This drives some people crazy and has led to the belief that touching someone else's screen is simply downright rude. A matte screen of course can show fingerprints but won't do it so obviously as a shiny screen. If you are incredibly anal about the appearance and cleanliness of your screen and work with people who are inclined to touch it, a matte screen may be the superior choice for your situation.

At some level, it just comes down to personal preference. Spend some good time in a store using each type. If you have always had a matte screen, it's wise to use a friend's shiny screen laptop for a few days to make sure that it doesn't drive you crazy before you buy your own shiny screen laptop.

Cable Dell Ibm

Hard Drive Problem?

I have a Dell, i have two IBM hard disks.
I accidently removed my cables.
Okay so I disconnected my wires the ones that have three connecters on each How do I plug them back in

Is one end still connected to the motherboard? I would think (hope) your SATA connected.

If yes, follow the top motherboard connector to the highest sitting hard drive and carefully insert the cable into the connection.

Take the second connector from the mobo and plug carefully into the lower seated hard drive. Try and reboot. If you do not get your Operating System back and running just reverse the connections going into the hard drive, do not detach from the mobo.

If your IDE with a wide cable, then you disconnected your power supply (colored cables) from your hard drive, just gingerly plug into the back of each hard drive.

Apple computer have recently introduced a magnetic power connector to their range of MacBooks and MacBook Pros. The idea is that if your power cable gets yanked, it just pops out and doesn’t pull your laptop off the table. This is a great invention that surely should have been invented at least 10 years ago – I can’t believe no one thought of such an obvious idea sooner.

Long Term Port Wear

I used to have an iBook and after 18 months the Ethernet port became a bit temperamental. The wire had to be pulled sidewise or it wouldnÂ’t connect. The port hadnÂ’t become damaged by yanking it (something that still hasnÂ’t been solved by the way), it was just worn out with normal use. I think the thing that did the damage was resting the laptop on my lap, or for that matter anywhere apart from a table. When the computer on something that doesnÂ’t remain perfectly still the cables in the back will be softly tugged with every movement. I didnÂ’t even think about it until the port failed, but I think 18 months of soft tugging is enough to wear it out.

The bad news is that the ports on your laptop can’t easily be fixed. All of the ones I have opened up have the ports soldered to the motherboard. Normally a broken port means that you are going to have to buy a new machine. Even if it is still under warranty, I wouldn’t be surprise if you get turned away. Broken ports are probably classed as user abuse by manufacturers – something that can’t be fixed under standard warranty.

After the iBook, I got an IBM ThinkPad. To avoid running into the same problem, I made certain rules of how I was going to use my new laptop. I always try to use it at a table; this is not only is good to eliminate cable tugging, it also supports your arms which I find more comfortable. After 2 years, my ports are not showing any signs of wear – so it seems to be paying off.

Carrying the Laptop

The only thing that went wrong with my ThinkPad was the case cracking. Although it was not dropped the case cracked after around 18 months of regular use. In my opinion, I think it was partly attributable to the poorly designed plastic component and also that I often lifted the laptop with one hand. Picking up a laptop by the corner is another habit that I try to avoid; it puts unnecessary bending stresses on some of the components.

Over the last 5 years, 4 laptops have been stolen from people I know; one from a restaurant, one from a college, and two from bedrooms. Each time the owner was guilty in some way for not taking the necessary precautions. I think that the windows of your home are like a shop front for thieves; I would never keep expensive equipment that can be seen in full view from outside. It might be nice to have a view from your desk, but you should be aware not to invite break-ins.

laptop is not wireless ready, how do I set up wireless connection for my laptop?

I have IBM Thinkpad 600E 2645-4AU notebook computer, I recently installed Windows XP and it is running great. However notebook is not wireless, it has a phone line connection on the side. I am wondering is there a way to provide wireless internet connection with some expenses?

Hi there, you can get PCMCIA wireless cards at any local computer shop or online (BestBuy etc, tigerdirect.com). You'd need highspeed internet, DSL or Cable, and you'd require a wireless router to pick up the signal. Most hotels these days have wireless signals in their rooms. Comes in handy when traveling.
