Your laptop power supply is composed of a handful of different elements. Some of these are things that you probably wouldn't have previously considered. Knowing what your laptop power supply is composed of and having just a basic understanding of these components can go a long way in helping you to maintain the health and longevity of your laptop computer.

Many times, when there are power issues, you can hear weird clicking noises coming from the computer. This is usually a tell tale sign that there is a problem with the computer's cooling fan. The cooling fan is a very important feature of the power supply. It serves to keep the processor cool enough to function properly without shorting. Computers that have upgrades to the processor or video card will usually need to upgrade their cooling system as well as the stock cooling fans can usually only handle so much. I have seen tricked out computers that actually use the coolant that is used in motor vehicles to help cool their systems. People that need to be most concerned with this are usually hard core gaming addicts that require super strong processors.

Another component that many people usually don't consider or even know about is the power board. The power board is often directly mounted onto the mother board and serves as the director of traffic as far as power is concerned inside of your computer. It's job is to regulate 'traffic' between the power cord that draws electricity from the wall socket, to your laptop's internal battery as well as to the mother board. On a smaller level than the surge protector, it also functions to make sure that there isn't too much power travelling through the system as well. You still need to use a power strip as the power board only does this function at a small level inside of your computer.

Another element of your laptops power system is the AC adapter. This is the box that is situated in the middle of your power cord. It transforms the alternating current that comes from the plug in your wall and turns it into direct current for the use of your laptop. Just like the power board, it also serves as a secondary means to make sure that too much power isn't entering your laptop and posing a threat to the vulnerable circuits.

People usually don't consider the wall jack as part of their laptop's power supply, and this can cause a bit of aggravation when power issues are being addressed. If your laptop's battery needs charging, and it isn't properly plugged into the wall, or if your home's power supply is somehow faulty, this can cause some pretty big headaches if you fail to recognise that your laptop cannot function as a separate entity unto itself. Just like people, laptops are interdependent with their environment.

When you visualize your laptops power supply, make sure to acknowledge all of it's components, and it will help you to do the things that you need to do in order to maintain it properly. It will also come in handy if it ever comes time for you to diagnose any power issues your laptop power supplies may be having.

Perhaps no drug has invited as much heated debate and ferocious argument as marijuana. But being a mind-altering drug, it also produces the effect of temporary distortion of perception, or what addicts term the "buzz". It acts on the central nervous system in the same way as all other drugs by plugging on some receptors. By doing this, it prepares the mind for the admission of more powerful drugs.

Long term effect: Long term effects of marijuana primarily concern the mind. It makes dependency easy and inevitable. Retail Sony Vaio

I have just bought Windows Vista Ultimate Edition ( Full Retail Version )?

Can any kind soul explain what buying this version entitles me to with regard to Microsoft Licensing. I paid £300.00 for it and note that there are also upgrade versions ( For £200.00 ) and OEM Versions for around £120.00 approx.
I have a Sony Vaio Laptop With Windows XP Professional already built in ( Have license stickers on the rear of the Laptopl ).
I also have two computers at home used by my kids and was wondering whether I can install this on there machines with it being the most expensive copy available.
I note that there are 32 and 64 bit discs inside but as yet I haven't broke the seals , please please can someone explain in si mple English what Microsoft allow me to do with this once ive opened the seals. Cheers

In short the boxed version of Windows that you bought entitles you to a single install on a single machine. If you wish to move it to another machine it will have to be uninstalled from the first one.

OEM is cheaper as the licence is tied to the hardware. In otherwords when you install in on a machine it lives and dies with that machine, i.e. it cannot be transferred to another one.

The upgrade licence is similar to the one you bought with regards to installing, except that you need to have a previous qualifying version of windows to upgrade from.

The 32bit and 64bit discs are not for two installations, but for a single installation depending on whether you're hardware is 32bit or 64bit.

That is the licencing point of it. From a what is technically possible point of view you can install it on more than one machine and when it comes to activation you ring the activation centre and inform them that it is the same machine but you needed to re-install. HOWEVER, that is in breach of the licence.

So there you go, hope that helps...

PS breaking the seal doesn't mean you are not entitled to return it. A lot of shops will say that because you broke the seal they will not refund you. This is false! You have a 30 day return period regardless. Plus any shop that tells you Microsoft will not refund them because you broke the seal is also false. They will. If you encounter this ring Microsoft directly and they are actually quite good to help on this but do advice that you go through the full process with the shop.

Another difference I've just thought of it that with the boxed version you bought you are also entitled to two free incidents of technical support directly with Microsoft. Installation and virus issues will be free and not affect this number.

With OEM your technical support lies with whom you bought the disc from and is chargeable with Microsoft.

PPS - Ok not so short - but if your children and students in a Dfes recognised school or college do ask your shop about educational licences as these a much cheaper and as a parent/guardian you are entitled to also use this software.

Netbooks have grown a lot in the last years. Even though they didn't even exist in early 2007, this type of mini laptops are now responsible for more than 20% of notebooks sells all over the world. That means they become very very popular in a short period of time, and their popularity is raising everyday.

That happened because, unlike the regular laptops, netbooks come with a series of advantages: they are cheaper, smaller, lighter and provide better battery life. On the other part, hardware inside, performances and sometimes ergonomics (for the keyboard and touch-pad) are not that good, but hey, I'm pretty sure most of us don't even use a laptop for anything else than regular applications, and those can be easily run on a netbook also.

As I've told you, netbooks are pretty cheap. You can get a decent one for as low as 300 bucks, although there are some with better hardware that can go up to $800 bucks. If you want to be able to run anything you want decently, a modern OS like Windows 7 and maybe some games, I would advice you not to buy entry level or mainstream such mini laptops. But instead go for the better ones.

The good part is that winter sales period in on its way right now, and I'm pretty sure there will be some very good offers on such netbooks, probably the most during Black Friday Deals 2009 day, on late November . I for one reckon mainstream netbooks will drop below $300 (they currently retail for around $350), while the better 11.6 inch ones with CULV processors and maybe Nvidia ION will drop at least $70 bucks from their price, but only on a limited time.

That because most such best mini notebook computers are as cheap as they can be already. Thus, selling them with big discounts will not be convenient for producers, producers whom already don't really appreciate netbooks for their low margins of profit.

We'll just have to wait for Black Friday and the other special days in the winter sales season to see how good deals we will be able to get on netbooks this year.

About connecting a laptop on your computer network.?

I have a computer and its vurs /spyware free, however if I have another laptop that has a virus/spyware, If I connect it on my internet connection which my computer is connected too can the virus transfer from my laptop to my computer?

If you are on a local network (meaning your two computers are connected to a Linksys or Netgear router, for example), it is possible that a virus on one computer can be transferred to the other via the network.

As for your second question, the simple answer would be "No". Say you opened up an e-mail that had an attachment with a virus in it. You open it and now your computer is infected. If you were to disconnect that computer from the Cable/DSL Modem and reconnect another one, the virus would not "transfer" over because you didn't open the e-mail from that second computer. This answer is based on the assumption that no local network exists in your home.
