where can i buy a charger for a toshiba laptop?

i have a toshiba tecra a6 (crappy student laptop) and the charger got stolen. mum bought me a different $200 one that isnt the same. it charges in small bits, then stops. i need an actual tecra a6 charger. apparently they're like $90. one from australia would be def. preferred. any ideas?

Try RadioShack. Most stores can cross reference your laptop and get you a universal charger with a laptop specific tip. It's called iGo. You can then use that charger with other devices, as long as you have the correct tips for the devices. Just ask a sales associate!

How do I get color on my tv through my laptop?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105,
with Radeon Xpress 200m series display adapter

I am trying to hook my tv up through the s-video output on the side of my laptop. The screen shows nicely but in black and white, I thought maybe it was because i have an
s-video /composite video connector that plugs in the tv RCA video jack on the front, BUT I use the same setup with my desktop and it does work in color.
What gives!!! (By the way my desktop has geforce fx5200)
I have read where people say to change the display region format, How do i do this in Vista Ultimate?

This sounds very much like the Chrominance line of your S-video signal is not making proper connection. (S-video has 2 feeds: Luminance, "Y", which will give you black and white, and Chrominance, "C", which will apply color to the image. Composite (RCA) is a combination of both signals.).

I'm leaning toward a fault in your S-Video cable or RCA adapter. If you can, try another S-video cable between the laptop and the S-video/RCA adapter. If another cable doesn't help, it may be the S-video to RCA adapter you are using is faulty. If you have a friend or family with a TV with S-Video input, try testing on that. If you do not know anyone with a TV with S-video in, try to see if a store will let you test on one of theirs (most will, but you may need to tell them you are "in the market" for a new set).

There is always the possibility the Crominance line if faulty on the jack on your laptop, but I'd expect it to be the cabling.

T1 lines are very reliable. If there is a problem it can often be solved quickly by using remote diagnostics. A CSU (Customer Service Unit) can be used to help provide a test point between your office and the central office of origin. You will typically get standard service during business hours that may include a technician visit to the site to resolve a problem. If your business has non-standard hours or operates 24/7 you will need to discuss service addition to your contract. Additionally, you may be able to use backup service in case of an outage, making the problem transparent to your customers.

Every day I walk up the path to my office and see at least a dozen or so coworkers carrying their company-issued laptops in their arms. As I see them fumbling for their identification badge while trying not to drop their Dunkin Donuts cup on the ground I think to myself, "These people are crazy."

4 independent electro-magnetic motors (similiar to Remote control car motors) hooked up to a bank of batteries. The wheels/ i.e.m.m.s have pulleys (like on gasoline motors) which are connected by belts to alternators that recharge the battery cells while the vehicle is in motion. all the batteries are thin li-ion batteries that are slim so that they can fit in the chassis/body beneath the passenger compartment. the brake system is electro-magnetic using electrical pulses to slow and bring the vehicle to a stop. Down the center of the vehicle an independent cell of batteries and/or heavy duty capacitors to power the various other important electronics (headlights, taillights, etc.). there can be other pulleys in place for fans, hvac systems, so on. Acceleration can be controlled by transformers and switches linked to the accelerator pedal.
Obviously for larger vehicles and more hauling power the motors are going to have to be modified but here is a start.

all electric motors are electro-magnetic. just thought i'd say so. and the battery/batteries are a given, unless you want to be stuck following some sort of electric rail in the ground

good idea, but not that simple. the alternators would cause a drag, reducing efficiency and forcing the drive motors to use more energy to maintain the same speed. fan-powered alternators, powered by the relative wind created by the vehicle's motion could work with sustained speeds, though

why not put them where the old gasoline engine was?

huge waste of energy. cut the drive motors and use a closed hydraulic system to apply friction brakes, just like we have now. and we already have ways of getting some electrical energy out of them, thus producing energy rather than using it

important stuff is stuff you're going to use alot. might as well run off of the main battery. non-essential stuff, like a radio, A/C, power windows, etc, on the other hand, would use this idea very well

link the pedal to a current limiter that, well, limits the current, and therefor, speed, of the drive motor(s). much simpler, and the basic system already exists

no, they just need bigger motors

and one more note: unless you include a ton of super-lightweight, super-effecient solar panels, you'd still need to plug in to recharge every so often, which we simply don't have the infrastructure for yet. or put a small gas-powered engine in it to keep you moving while charging the batteries. super-high MPG is better than nothing, right?

Netbooks are everywhere, on buses, on trains, on planes... and in the classroom. It seems the little netbook has come out of nowhere to become extremely popular overnight.

But what is a netbook?

Netbooks usually have screens of 10 inches or less, runs Windows or Linux and generally sell for well under $500. As its name indicates, the netbook's main purpose is to keep its owner conveniently connected to the net - anywhere, anytime.

First introduced by Asustek when it launched the first Eee PC in the fall of 2007. But it was only in the last year when we saw the explosive growth of these so-called mini-laptops. Now we have many computer companies such as HP, Dell, Lenovo... all jumping on this craze for a small portable laptop. So much so, that netbooks now is the fastest growing segment of the laptop industry and is expected to reach 139 million units by 2013.

Why is there a sudden popularity for the small netbook? Perhaps the answer lies mainly in our constant quest for mobility. We want a portable device that will keep us connected to the Internet and yet be small and light enough to be carried around all day. A truly ultra-portable device that keeps us connected with family, friends and the web.

The next question you have to ask: why do netbooks make for great student laptops? If the above reasons aren't enough, try the following:

Size

Netbooks are small with 10 inch displays or less, which make them ideal for students. Plus, they are usually very lightweight -- around 2 or 3 pounds. They are compact enough to tuck into your school bag or backpack, and small enough to carry around all day without developing a hernia.

Portability

As mentioned above because the netbook is so small and compact, it is very portable. A very mobile device that we can use to stay connected to the web and friends. Connectability is one of the main features -- you are connected to the web at all times.

Sturdiness

Most netbooks are designed to be sturdy and tough. They can take a few hard knocks and still keep on working. Students are not exactly the most gentle creatures on the planet, so a sturdy tough machine is needed to handle the demands put upon it.

Battery Life

Because of their small size, you will usually get better battery life than with a regular sized laptop. This is important to the student since you may have to go all day without a chance to re-charge the battery. Long lasting battery life makes the netbook the perfect student laptop.

Performance

Although small, these mini-laptops still sports some very impressive specs. Many now come with at least 1 Gig of RAM and Intel Atom processors. There are even some with Solid State Hard Drives which make them more durable and less likely to be damaged. Most use Windows XP but newer models debuting this year with the Nvidia's Ion platform may have Vista or Windows 7, but still don't expect the kind of performance you would get from a regular laptop.

Storage

While storage on netbooks is constantly increasing, it is still nowhere near the kind of storage you will find on a regular sized laptop. Usually, most devices have around 30 or 60 Gig hard drives which should be adequate for most student's needs. Many newer netbooks have 160 Gigs of storage.

Price

Perhaps, the main reason netbooks make the perfect student laptops is the low price. Students are usually on a very limited budget and the low price-tag is a perfect fit. Many perfectly adequate machines are now priced in the $300 to $500 range -- while many good ones go for well under $300. Plus, prices are steadily dropping so almost any student can now afford a netbook.

As you can plainly see, the netbook does have many features to make it a perfect student laptop: small size, very portable, excellent connections, very sturdy, long battery life, good performance, adequate storage and most of all, a very affordable price almost any student can take advantage of. Overall, netbooks are well suited for the classroom and the student.
