toshiba satellite A55 S1064 headphone jack doesn't work?

speakers work on laptop.I switched out headphones.Is there a way to toggle back and forth between inboard speakers and output jack?I restored to earliest date.

were is the downside to this laptop?

on walmarts website there is a laptop MSI Wind U100-279US 10.1" Netbook Intel Atom Processor, 6 Cell battery 160GB Hard Drive, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, 1.3 MP Camera, White and it is priced for 298$ and im thinking about buying it and i want to know why it would be so cheap and have a decent hard drive?
i have a desktop i was just looking for something to surf wirelessly if i have a good connectiong would it be good for casual internet use?

This is not a laptop, it's a NETBOOK.
It has a slow CPU, a weak video card and no optical drive like CD/DVD.
It is meant for internet surfing and to be portable, in my opinion this is a toy.

If you are only looking for something to surf on the net wireless, sitting on a sofa, then you should get a netbook, but don't expect too much.

All netbooks have the same thing in common, no optical drive and weak power, so not much to compare. Most ppl go by design, but i would go with a 10" at least. You will get bad eyes with 8.9" reading the the tiny text on the net:)

My Batteery CMOS Acer TravelMate is shot and I needto replace it, but dont kno where to find the battery in the laptop to replace

Why Mac notebook over a laptop ?

What is it about the mac notebook that a regular laptop dont have or can't do (is it to do with better video or audio processing)? I know it looks really stylish and the interface looks really userfriendly and big graphics. If you 're a college student should you get a macbook or a regular laptop ?
Can you run ibm compatible softwares in a macnotebook, or you're only limited to using mac softwares on them ?

can you run Windows prgrams with Mac? Sure, definately you can, but with one compromise. First, your Mac should be using Intel chip. That's a first. Not a Mac with Intel chip (processor), you can't run Windows program. Secondly, even if you have Intel chip, but you don't have the program called BootCamp, you can't still running Windows progs in your Mac.

Besides BootCamp, there is a few others too. I forgot their names, but their main function is the same: allow you to run programs with your Mactop

Several of the major computer manufacturers now offer ultra thin, very sleek and, above all, fantastic looking small laptops. Sony recently launched their TZ Ultraportable and in January 2008 Apple unveiled the MacBook Air. These laptops are at the cutting edge of available consumer computer technology and their unique selling point is how portable and lightweight they are. However, these are expensive laptops and the question remains - will you be getting good value for money?

The first thing to consider is exactly what you will be using your new laptop for. These ultra thin laptops maybe small, but this comes at the expense of power. They are not the most powerful laptops available because the manufacturers have had to closely pack all the components in. If you are going to be editing movies or running other power hungry applications you should go for the most powerful laptop you can get for your budget.

Secondly you should consider how much you travel with your computer, how long for and what you do with it when you do travel. These ultra portable laptops are extremely thin and particularly easy to transport, but how hard is your current laptop to carry around? For example, if you were to buy a MacBook Air you have to consider that it does not have an interchangeable battery. If you travel for long periods of time without access to power then after the battery runs out you have to wait to charge it. With a larger, more traditional laptop you could simply replace the battery with a spare one. There is a great deal of compromise in these ultra portable laptops and you need to truly assess your requirements (everything from connection ports to screen size) before committing. It may be that a laptop just ½ an inch thicker is more suitable.

Finally, there is one more important aesthetic to consider before you purchase a new laptop and that is the style factor.
